Many young people today might not remember when the legendary Brazilian footballer, Pelé came right here to Malta and gave a training session at the Empire stadium in Gzira.

The video footage taken by Reuters and shared by Conrad Borg Manche on social media, shows Pelé walking along Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, a very well-known figure in Maltese football.

Pele can then be seen demonstrating all his skilful training techniques as the young Maltese footballers follow in his footsteps.

Thousands of fans can be seen watching in awe and admiration for the stadium’s seats.

The iconic footballer visited Malta in 1975, five years after he won his third world cup for Brazil. At the time he was about to start playing for the New York Cosmos, before retiring as a professional player in 1977.

Pelé died less than a year ago, on the 29th December, 2022 at the age of 82 after a battle with colon cancer.
