This 140-year-old photo shared by Alfred Pace is from a time in Valletta that nobody can ever truly remember!

The shot was taken somewhere between 1880 and 1888 at the Café De Paris found within the Hotel de Paris in Strait Street in Valletta.

It shows a long dinner table of opera singers who probably were visiting Malta to sing at Valletta’s stunning Royal Opera House. The hotel was known for being very popular amongst opera performers.

The hotel was directly hit during the air raids on Malta during World War II which led the hotel to change addresses and move in front of St John’s Co-Cathedral.

The building from where this photo is taken still exists today and is now known as ‘Palazzo Preca’, a Valletta restaurant.
