‘The Art of Letting Go’: Artistic portrayals of loss by Karen Caruana at Mqabba’s Kamra ta’ Fuq this November
Loss is an inevitable experience that touches everyone’s life at some point, evoking a range of reactions and emotions in each individual. Artist Karen Caruana draws upon her own experiences of heartbreak and the quiet acceptance of lost dreams to inspire the works in her exhibition, ‘The Art of Letting Go,’ opening at Il-Kamra ta’ Fuq in Mqabba on Friday 8th November.
Curated by Melanie Erixon, the exhibition explores the artist's reflections on themes such as isolation, the yearning for new connections, vulnerability, and insecurity. Central to Karen Caruana’s work is the recurring symbol of the sunflower, which serves as a reminder of the joy that can still be found, even in the depths of despair.
Born in Malta, Karen Caruana has been pursuing Fine Art painting since 2001. Primarily focused on painting and photography, she is captivated by color, form, facial expressions, and the dynamics of movement.

Her artistic journey reflects a constant quest for self-growth, driven by a deep interest in folk customs, popular culture, and visionary art. She draws inspiration from masters such as Odd Nerdrum, Francis Bacon, and Rembrandt, continuously exploring and expanding her creative horizons.

Running until Sunday 1st December, ‘The Art of Letting Go’ opens at 7:30 PM next Friday, and invites viewers to reflect on the bittersweet journey of loss and the serenity that comes from embracing the act of letting go.
