‘The Annunciation’: Delving into the world of iconography at Gozo’s Ħaġar Museum

Il-Ħaġar Heart of Gozo Museum in Victoria is partnering with Valerio Ballotta of GBK to present a landmark temporary exhibition featuring an extraordinary collection of works depicting the biblical event of the Annunciation by European masters, from the late Gothic period through the Renaissance to the Baroque era. Titled 'The Annunciation: The Itinerary of Hope through Iconography', the exhibition will open on Friday 15th November.

This collection will display pieces by renowned artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Michael Wolgemut, Lucas Cranach, Crispin van de Broeke, Maarten van Heemskerck, Nicolas Beatrizet, and Federico Barocci - many of whom will be exhibited in the Maltese Islands for the first time.

‘The Annunciation: The Itinerary of Hope through Iconography’ will be inaugurated on Friday 15th November at 7.30pm, and will run till the 12th of January 2025. It can be visited during the museum’s opening hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Sunday (public holidays included). Il-Ħaġar will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, and admission to the museum as well as the exhibition itself is free of charge.
