Customised lorries were used to make the rounds across towns and villages.
The sight of street vendors selling kerosene (pitrolju) has become increasingly rare in Malta. A few decades ago, when kerosene was still used for cooking and heating homes, lorries customised for carrying and supplying kerosene made rounds across Malta's towns and villages, adding to the character of Malta's streets.
Before the lorries, vendors used to transport kerosene on mule-driven carts (karettun) like the one shown here.
Many people in the comments started to reminisce about the good old days when they used to buy kerosene from street vendors. Some even comment that a family member was a kerosene man back in the day. Another comment from a Malta Lura fil-Passat follower even recognised the below area as being San Gwann.
Do you remember (and miss) the kerosene man on Malta's streets?
