Take note! Strong winds and rough seas expected around the Maltese Islands this weekend
Friday and Saturday will bring with it very strong gusts of wind!

As warmer temperatures settle over the Maltese Islands this weekend, many will be tempted to head to the seaside. But while the sunny weather may seem inviting, the popular Facebook page Maltese Islands Weather, has issued a strong caution for anyone planning sea-related activities like swimming, diving, or boating.

On Friday, 14th March 14 and Saturday, 15th March, very strong gusts of wind are expected to sweep across the islands. The wind will initially blow from the South Southeast to South, creating rough sea conditions throughout Friday and into Saturday. By Saturday afternoon, the wind will shift drastically to the West Northwest, leading to even stronger gusts and increased turbulence on the water.

This dramatic change in wind direction will result in a confused swell, with simultaneous waves coming from both the Southeast and Southwest on Saturday. Adding to the rough conditions, a Northwesterly current will also be present. These combined factors make the sea especially unpredictable and dangerous along exposed coastal areas.

The gusty winds from the Northwest are expected to persist throughout Sunday, keeping the sea conditions rough and hazardous. Given this forecast, it’s strongly advised to avoid sea-related activities over the weekend, particularly in areas most exposed to the shifting winds and waves.

For those still planning a seaside visit, extra caution is essential. Stay away from rocky shores and unstable coastal areas and keep an eye on updated weather reports for any changes.

While the warm temperatures might make the beach seem appealing, safety should remain the top priority. Enjoy the sunshine from safer spots inland!

Did your weekend plans involve a beaching activity?
