In an exciting turn of events, the eighth and final turtle nest of the season has fully hatched, producing 67 healthy hatchlings. Despite being the last nest discovered this year, it surprised experts by hatching earlier than expected.

The eighth nest, found at Ramla l-Hamra on the 8th of August, was carefully opened by ERA and Nature Trust Malta (NTM) on the 28th of September. The nest contained 76 eggs in total, with 67 successfully hatching - a remarkable success for the endangered loggerhead turtles.

This turtle nest season is definitely one to remember, with just over 400 new turtles released into the wild so far. In line with its mission, ERA is putting all its efforts into wildlife conservation, to improve Malta’s environment for a better quality of life. ERA will continue to support Nature Trust in its wildlife rehabilitation project and is committed to providing resources for wildlife protection, especially for endangered species like the loggerhead turtle.
