Last weekend was a brilliant one for Maltese athletes worldwide!

The Special Olympics European Swimming Meeting was held between Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October in Monaco at the Prince Albert II Water Sports Centre, where the Maltese contingent performed superbly, bringing home 3 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal across 8 events.

The first gold medal was earned by Maria James in the 50-metre breaststroke category for swimming with a personal best of 1 minute 4 seconds, followed by Sean Farrugia placing first in the 50-metre backstroke and a personal best of 35.73 seconds. Alessia Distefano made the third gold, also gaining a personal best of 46.84 seconds.

The silver medals were scooped up by Nicole Caruana and Sean Farrugia in the 50-metre and 100-metre freestyle respectively, and Maria James won the bronze for the 100-metre freestyle.

Well done to the entire team!
