Safety boost! Fire hydrants to be installed across Malta and Gozo
The hydrants will be underground reservoirs, as per the European standard

Francesca Vella

The Water Services Corporation has announced the installation of fire hydrants at strategic locations across Malta and Gozo. This initiative aims to improve emergency response times by enabling fire engines to access water directly from these hydrants, eliminating the need to return to the fire station for refills.

Currently, firefighters must carry large amounts of water in their engines, and in the case of a large fire, they often face delays while returning to the station to refill, wasting precious time during critical moments.

The new hydrants will follow the European standard, with underground designs, avoiding the need to create extra space on pavements or roads for these reservoirs.

Have you ever spotted a fire hydrant while travelling?
