Exciting news for Maltese football as 16-year-old goalkeeper Adam Newell embarks on a long-term trial with Portuguese Premier Division club, Académica FC Famalicão.

Adam Newell, who currently plays for the U17 Malta National Team and Pieta Hotspurs FC, will be with the Portuguese side until the end of the season.

This opportunity is not Adam's first taste of Portuguese football. In 2024, he underwent trial periods with several Portuguese clubs, including Club Desportivo Feirense, Academico de Viseu FC, and Académica FC Famalicão. His continued presence in Portugal highlights his growing potential and the interest he has attracted from top-tier clubs.

Adam recently represented Malta in the UEFA U17 qualifiers last November, playing in key matches against strong opponents such as England and Latvia. His performances in the tournament demonstrated his skill, composure, and determination, earning him recognition and further opportunities abroad.

Joining Famalicão is a significant step in Adam's journey as a young athlete, providing him with exposure to a highly competitive environment and the chance to develop his abilities alongside top talents. The experience gained during this trial will undoubtedly contribute to his growth as a goalkeeper and his aspirations for an international football career.

Good luck, Adam! We’re all cheering you on!
