Martin Xuereb, one of Malta leading and most-respected architects, sadly passed away on 1st March, aged 67.

The late architect passed just a day before what would have been his 68th birthday.

Martin was widely known for his contemporary designs and is behind a series of landmarks scattered all around the Maltese islands – including Cittadella’s recent restoration.

The aforementioned project earned Martin a place as a finalist in the 2018 European RegioStar Awards.

The Embassy Valletta Hotel’s rooftop pool – another one of Martin’s designs – was listed as one of the ’30 best rooftop pools in the world’ for 2022 by therooftopguide.com.

Martin’s firm, Martin Xuereb and Associates, also won the Public Open Space Award at the 2020 Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning Awards for its design of the Sliema Piazzetta.

Rest in peace, Martin!
