Renowned Maltese contemporary artist Raymond Pitrè passes away at 84
The artist made portraits of all of Malta's presidents and prime ministers

The celebrated Maltese contemporary artist, Raymond Pitrè, has passed away at the age of 84.

Although he was best known for this abstract paintings and sculptures, the artist’s works included paintings of all of Malta's presidents and prime ministers, ceiling paintings at Msida’s Parish Church and Stella Maris in Sliema. He also created the artwork for five sets of Malta stamps.

Posts filled sorrow at the news and condolences for his loved ones are pouring out, emphasising the impact Raymond Pitrè had on the artistic and local community.

Prime Minister Robert Abela saluted his memory in a Facebook post, saying ‘His work took him to every corner of the world but he was always proud of our country.’ He also announced that Raymond Pitrè’s works will be on display at MICAS in the coming weeks, celebrating his artistic talent.
