Recreational haven! Birzebbuga unveils a revamped Independence Garden
The garden spans 1,700 square meters

Francesca Vella

The Birzebbuga community, or anybody else wandering in the vicinity, can now enjoy a more accessible and secure Independence Garden, thanks to a revitalisation project that has breathed new life into this recreational space. As an important hub for local residents, the renovation was carried out in close consultation with the local council to ensure the garden continues to serve its purpose as a community-focused area.

Spanning 1,700 square metres, the garden had long suffered from neglect and persistent structural issues. The regeneration project involved the construction of new walls, the planting of 20 new trees, terrain levelling, the installation of modern equipment, and the addition of shaded areas for increased comfort.

To improve accessibility, ramps were added at the garden’s entrances, making it easier for everyone to enjoy the space. Project Green also incorporated environmentally friendly features, such as sustainable materials and an efficient new irrigation system.
