Prickly situation! Hedgehog rescued from Valletta lift to Laparelli Gardens
A volunteer and member of the police force came to the hedgehog's aid

Francesca Vella

Over the weekend, a hedgehog found itself trapped inside the lift connecting the entrance of Valletta to Laparelli Gardens. With the lift out of operation, the hedgehog was stuck within the locked system, prompting a call to the Wildlife Rescue Team for assistance.

The Malta Police Force was also called in to provide access to the lift, with special mention given to PC155 for their vital support. Once the Wildlife Rescue Team volunteer successfully retrieved the hedgehog, it was taken into care for observation and hydration, with hopes of releasing it back into the wild soon.

The Wildlife Rescue Team extended heartfelt thanks to the individual who reported the incident, as well as to the Malta Police Force and PC155 for their invaluable assistance in saving the spiny little creature. They remind the public to reach out to them at 99999505 for such emergencies, as they are equipped and trained to handle wildlife rescues effectively.

Wishing the little one a speedy return to its home in the wild!
