The Birgu Local Council has announced the cancellation of Birgufest 2024, a beloved event that celebrates the rich history and culture of the Maltese town.

The decision was made during a council meeting, following professional advice and consultations with relevant authorities. The primary concern leading to the cancellation was the ongoing Birgu Main Square project, which raised significant health and safety issues.

The council emphasised that the well-being of both residents and the public was the top priority in this decision. Holding such a large-scale event during the project’s ongoing work would have posed risks and inconveniences to attendees and residents alike.

While the cancellation is disappointing for many who look forward to the annual festivities, the council is committed to ensuring that the Birgu Main Square project proceeds smoothly, without further disruption.
