Nature’s colours! Renowned artist Joël Circhanski-Deleuze’s debut solo exhibition in Malta opens today in Mdina
The debut solo exhibition of acclaimed French artist Joël Circhanski-Deleuze, titled ‘Vibrant Forces: Nature in Living Colour’, opens today at The Atrium of the Xara Palace, a beautifully restored 17th-century palazzo in Mdina. This exhibition explores the interconnectedness of nature, with vivid depictions of birds and sea creatures intertwined through overlapping forms and bold colours.

The artist’s Slavic heritage and extensive travels deeply influence his work, combining precise forms with tropical, vibrant hues. His distinctive technique, which he calls ‘compressions,’ merges overlapping shapes and textures to create intricate depth and complexity.
With an international career spanning decades, including major exhibitions in New York and Florida, the artist is now based in Kalkara, where he continues to draw inspiration from Malta’s natural beauty. His paintings, characterised by their rich, earthy palette, echo the colours of the Mediterranean landscape and his deep connection to nature. Beyond the studio, Joël and his wife often sail around the Maltese islands, further fuelling his creative inspiration.

The exhibition, curated by Prof. Charlene Vella, will be on display until Thursday 28th November – for more information visit the curator’s website.
