The Simar Nature Reserve, hidden behind the popular kiosks in Xemxija Bay, has announced the exciting news that it will be reopening to the public from next Monday 16th September!
Simar is one of the few places on the Maltese Islands to provide wildlife with particular habitats such as open pools and reedbed, giving a home to the rare and protected Mediterranean Killifish and species of rare tassel-weed.
Simar is a fully protected bird sanctuary whose habitats also attract aquatic birds like herons, rails and kingfishers, which visitors can look out for while exploring the reserve. Other creatures found at Simar include the Mediterranean Chameleon and geckos, spotted by the keen eye while camouflaged on the branches.
The opening hours for the reserve will be on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 2pm and 7pm, and on Sundays between 10am and 4pm, making it the perfect option for a relaxing evening or Sunday outing with a difference!
