Midway milestone! Fourth turtle nest hatches with 46 new hatchlings safely released
This nest was discovered at Ghajn Tuffieha but relocated to Golden Bay for safety.
The turtle hatching season has officially passed its halfway mark, with the fourth nest fully hatching, producing 46 hatchlings.
Nest four, originally discovered at Għajn Tuffieħa on the 16th of July, was relocated to Golden Bay to ensure its safety. The nest, which held a total of 64 eggs, was carefully opened by the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) and Nature Trust Malta (NTM) on the 8th of September.

Out of the 46 hatchlings, one was found still inside the nest and safely guided to the sea.
Such operations are only made possible through the hard work of ERA officers and Nature Trust. Their unwavering commitment and sacrifice during these times, where they need to carry out work at odd hours of the day and with little to no warning in advance, is commendable.

ERA also thanked the public for adhering to guidelines that helped protect the nest and the hatchlings. The authority continues to collaborate with NTM to safeguard turtle nests and support animal rescue and rehabilitation efforts across the Maltese Islands.
Good luck little hatchlings!
