Literary legacy! Maltese dramatist Alfred Buttigieg unveils complete works in tonight’s book launch
The playwright also wrote workbooks to help primary schoolchildren improve their Maltese language skills
Tonight, Alfred Buttigieg, celebrated for his Maltese plays, will launch a comprehensive book of his works spanning over four decades, from 1981 to 2023. His latest play, a farce titled 'L-Arrest ta’ Danny Weed' (The Arrest of Danny Weed), premiered at the Blue Box theatre in Msida, the same venue for tonight's launch of 'Id-Drammi ta’ Alfred Buttigieg' (The Plays of Alfred Buttigieg) at 7.30pm.
The five theatre makers that have directed his works, Michael A Fenech, Immanuel Mifsud, Malcolm Galea, Tyrone Grima and Lee-N Abela, will be present at tonight’s launch to say a few words about their experience of the author’s plays.
His play 'Ippermettili Nitlaq' (Please Let Me Go), which addresses medical ethics, was recognised in the 2010 European Theatre Convention as one of the top 120 contemporary European plays.
In 2017 the playwright published ‘Alfred Buttigieg The Collected Plays’, a collection of four of his full-length plays in English – ‘The Priests’ Revolt’, ‘Please Let me Go’, ‘On Minors Midlife Crises and Fast Motorbikes’ and ‘What is This, a Madhouse?’, which is now also available on Kindle.
Alfred Buttigieg has also been exploring other talents recently, having held his debut ceramic exhibition that explored the human form earlier this year.
