July in Malta hasn’t been this hot in 50 years! Old newspaper article records intense heatwave from 1973
The maximum temperature record for July was in 1988.

It’s no secret that Malta is getting hotter and hotter by the day! As we are coping and making our way through our first summer heatwave, there’s not much hope that it will get better any time soon. In fact, we recently learnt that the heatwave has been extended by at least another week!

Temp Madwarna recently posted an interesting fact on their social media. It was, in fact, fifty years ago, on the 20th of July in 1973 that the maximum temperature rose to 42°C.

The maximum temperature record for July was in 1988 when the temperature rose to 43°C.

While we still haven’t hit those temperatures yet, we’re expected to reach them very soon, possibly on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th of July.

Malta, brace yourselves...the worst is not over yet (but hopefully, it will be soon!)
