Hailstorm strikes central and southern Malta last night! Some stones reached size of 2-cent coin
Many were awoken by the loud sounds of hail hitting their windows

Last night brought a short but strong hailstorm over Malta, with several hailing from central and southern localities reporting heavy hail stones hitting their windows – Facebook user Denis Magro shared an image of the hailstone he picked up that measured as large as a two-cent coin!

According to Aggornament tat-Temp, the reason for the hail seems to have been the drop in temperature that occurred during the night, with a temperature of 9°C being recorded in Zurrieq at 1am.

Today’s weather is forecast to be mostly cloudy with isolated showers that could become thundery at times, especially in the first half of the day, however no more hail is predicted for the rest of the day and night ahead.

Did you experience last night’s hailstorm?
