Wied Incita, a newly restored 20,000-square-metre green space in the heart of Malta, has officially opened to the public, offering families and nature enthusiasts a tranquil environment to enjoy. This transformation, led by Ambjent Malta, is part of a broader initiative to provide accessible green spaces across the country.

The project has turned a previously inaccessible area into a natural park. Originally allocated to a consortium for landscaping in 2002, the site has now been regenerated and returned to the public through an agreement with the new consortium, GEB.

Wied Incita, along with other spaces like Spencer Gardens, Hospice Gardens, and Independence Gardens, are now available for public enjoyment.

Plans are already underway for 19 more green projects in the coming year, including the transformation of a concrete area in Pembroke into a garden and the regeneration of an abandoned plot in Santa Lucija. The importance of long-term upkeep for these spaces was stressed during the opening while also highlighting investments in sustainable materials, modern irrigation systems, and maintenance to ensure their continued usability for future generations.

The Wied Incita park is now home to 750 newly planted trees and hundreds of shrubs, supported by an advanced irrigation system to withstand Malta’s hot summers. Restoration efforts also included removing 370 tonnes of waste, rebuilding rubble walls, installing picnic benches, and constructing gazebos. Enhanced pathways ensure accessibility and safety while promoting natural grass growth and efficient rainwater drainage.

During the park’s inauguration, children from the Attard school contributed by planting several trees, symbolising the project’s community-centered focus.

With its picturesque views and improved amenities, Wied Incita is set to become a cherished destination for families and nature lovers alike.
