In an extraordinary event, Wildlife Rescue Malta just announced that Nest 3 at Ramla l-Hamra marked the beginning of the hatching season, coinciding with a dazzling stroboscopic thunderstorm. On this atmospheric night, 68 turtle hatchlings made their way from the sand to the sea, creating a remarkable scene that was both awe-inspiring and unexpected.

The hatchlings' early emergence on Day 46 took many by surprise. In the days leading up to the event, subtle signs of movement beneath the sand hinted at the imminent hatching. However, no one anticipated the hatchlings would brave the stormy night, adding to the drama of their first journey into the world.

Nest 3 was laid on the 13th of July, after the mother turtle made several unsuccessful attempts to nest. The timing of their hatching, coinciding with one of the most energetically charged nights of the season, made the event even more special.

This successful hatching showcases the dedication of the volunteers and officials involved. Their round-the-clock efforts, supported by Nature Trust - FEE Malta, the Environment & Resources Authority (ERA), and various sponsors, ensured the hatchlings' safe passage to the sea.

Monitoring of Nest 3 will continue in the coming nights to safeguard any remaining hatchlings.

Welcome to the world, baby turtles!
