From helpless to hopeful! Meet Sky, a rescued hedgehog found stranded on the island of Comino
In a heartwarming rescue effort, the Emergency Response Rescue Corps in Malta recently came to the aid of a young hedgehog named Sky. Sky, a mere hoglet, was found stranded in broad daylight on the island of Comino.
It's believed that this tiny creature had become separated from its mother and was too young to fend for itself in the wild. When discovered, Sky was shivering with cold and hunger, prompting the rescue team to step in.
Hedgehogs, like Sky, are delicate creatures and require special care, especially as they are lactose intolerant. This means that they should never be given cow’s milk as it can be harmful to them.
Fortunately, Sky is now in the capable hands of dedicated volunteers who are providing the necessary hedgehog milk and warmth until the day Sky can be safely released back into its natural habitat.
Nature Trust reinforces that hedgehogs are a protected species in Malta and that it is illegal to harm or keep them as pets. The volunteers involved in this rescue mission hold wildlife handling permits and are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to nurture these precious creatures.

We’re hoping Sky’s story will have the happy ending that this cute hedgehog deserves!
