Feast enthusiasts call for Maltese festa to make list of UNESCO cultural heritage
It wouldn’t be summer on the Maltese Islands without it!

Sarah Micallef

The Maltese village feast or festa is an integral part of summer on the Maltese Islands, and for many locals, their hometown feast is the highlight of their social calendar.

Now, local festa enthusiasts have joined forces with Malta’s Cultural Directorate to put the Maltese festa up for consideration to be included in this UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage from around the world.

“The Maltese feast is one of the main pillars of the Maltese cultural calendar,” writes the local Union of Band Clubs in a social media post, making the case for recognition by UNESCO.

Do you agree that the festa should be considered for inclusion within UNESCO’s list of intangible heritage from around the world? If you do, get in touch with the Ghaqda Kazini tal-Banda on [email protected] and let them know your thoughts!
