Open Day

On Sunday, 26th January, Heritage Malta is inviting the public to an Open Day which will be held at the prehistoric site of Borġ in-Nadur in Birżebbuġa. Admission will be free of charge.

The landscape of Birżebbuġa has always intrigued archaeologists, due to its richness in archaelogical remains and sites, including Għar Dalam and the Roman villa at Ta’ Kaċċatura.

Around 500m away from Għar Dalam, situated high between two valleys and overlooking St George’s Bay, one finds also the megalitihic site of Borġ in-Nadur. The site was in use during both the late Temple Period (3,150 – 2,500 BC) and the Bronze Age (2,400 – 700 BC).

Archaeological excavations that were done on site by archaeologist Margaret Murray in the 1920s provided significant information which shed further light on the difference between the Temple Age and the Bronze Age.

The public can learn more about this site during a number of guided tours which are being organised during the day. At 10.00hrs and 14.00hrs, the guided tour will be in Maltese, whereas at noon and at 16.00hrs, the guided tour will be in English. A maximum of 25 persons can join each tour.
