“Novecento: the Legend of the Pianist on the Ocean”, one of the great classics of Italian literature by Alessandro Baricco, was brought to the cinema by Bernardo Bertolucci in 1976 and Giuseppe Tornatore in 1998. Novecento tells the story of a baby boy abandoned on an ocean liner who grows up to be a great jazz pianist and lives his entire life at sea, never leaving the ship.
This new production is directed by Daniela Ardini and stars Giovanni Costantino as Tim Tooney and Alessia Bonnici as the pianist Danny Boodman T.D. Lemon Novecento. The production is designed by veteran scenographer Giorgio Panni.
The play will be staged in Italian with English and Maltese surtitles and will coincide with the publication of first Maltese language edition of Baricco’s Novecento. The producers of this show, Costantino Films, wish to create a bridge between Italian and Maltese excellence for the production of cultural events aimed not only at professional exchange but also at enriching and raising awareness on important social issues. The production is funded by Arts Council Malta.
