The Malta International Arts Festival presents a multidisciplinary arts programme featuring a blend of visual arts projects, dance, theatre, and music by local and international artists.

A theatre production connecting local artists with professional actors featuring an itinerant performance inspired by regional myths and legends. This performance will be held in Maltese. The admission fee being collected will be given as a donation to Cospicua Local Council towards the Short Play Festival.
Harbour Odyssey

“Harbour Odyssey” is a site-specific production, conceived and designed to take place on the front deck of a beautiful 38 metre long a two masted vessel – The Fernandes. As the schooner cruises the waters, the Grand Harbour becomes the scenography for the theatrical narrative, informed several stories that have survived the test of time. The audience joins the cast of actors and musicians to experience a collection of historical anecdotes and local legends set within the unique panoramic views of the Grand Harbour. A special thanks goes out to Liam Gauci, curator of the Malta Maritime Museum, who has supported this production with his knowledge of the harbour and its history.
Chaotic Harmony

Some of the most important composers of the 20th century have dedicated works to Italian flute virtuoso Massimo Mercelli – these include compositions by Penderecki, Gubaidulina, Glass, Nyman, Bacalov, Morricone, Galliano and Sollima among others. “Chaotic Harmony” is a music journey through the repertoire of the modern flute, accompanied by string quintet. This project connects local artists with international talent, featuring musicians from the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. “Chaotic Harmony” also presents an interdisciplinary dimension with the participation of Moveo Dance Company presenting four new choreographies for this project.
Carolina Eyck – Theramin and Voice

Carolina Eyck is an internationally acclaimed performer of the distinctive “Theremin” – the only instrument in the world that is played without any physical contact. Carolina's voice and the theremin form the perfect symbiosis as she triggers live loops creating complex layers of sound.
Beethoven Forever

“Beethoven Forever” combines a full orchestra with digital animation and theatre on the Teatru Manoel stage for an entertaining journey through all of Beethoven’s 9 symphonies. This family-friendly production has been curated to present a series of symphonic excerpts performed by The Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, under the directrion of Michael Laus, accompanied by animations and illustrations that portray the narrative of each sequence.
Stones & Bones

This stunning dance-theatre production from Greece presents a narrative of human struggle through time and space, gravity and decay. The four female performers interact with large solid marble sculptures that portray a strong visual impact as well as a unique acoustic presence.
M.A.D. – Music and Dance

The third edition of “M.A.D. Music and Dance” within the framework of the Malta International Arts Festival presents a residency by dance artists Dmytro Gyrnov and Sarah Vella leading to three new choreographies set to contemporary music: “Spiegel im Spiegel” by Arvo Pärt, “Talking Drums: I. Ukom” by Joshua Uzoigwe and “Two Abstracts” by Shaun Tilburg. The programme includes other contemporary works by Christopher Muscat, Giovanni Sollima, Steve Reich, Aleksey Igudesman, David P.Jones and Chick Corea. M.A.D. connects local artists with international talent within an interdisciplinary context of music and dance. The music will be performed live featuring Alessandra Giura Longo, Rodolfo Rossi, Silvia Belfiore and Nadine Galea.
RITO

RITO by Spanish dance company Otra Danza combines choreography with an art installation to create a complex artistic production that merges the human body with sculpture, light and sound. This performance is introduced by a recital of String Quartet No. 8 by Dmitri Shostakovich performed by Boho4 from Belgium.
Sunrise Mass

Ola Gjeilo’s “Sunrise Mass” performed by KorMalta under the baton of choirmaster Riccardo Bianchi will be accompanied by a videodance projection portraying ŻfinMalta at Mnajdra Temples. The programme includes Krzysztof Penderecki’s striking string quartet no. 1 and Béla Bartók’s String Quartet No. 4 choreographed by Paolo Mangiola for ŻfinMalta. Both quartets are performed by Belgian string quartet “Boho4”.
