Gather not just to remember—but to resist.
On one side, Palestinian Land Day, born from blood shed defending land, dignity, and the right to exist. On the other, Malta’s Freedom Day, a hard-won victory that reminds us that sovereignty is never gifted—it is fought for, protected, and lived.
Today, both are under threat.
From Gaza to Lebanon, from Iran to the wider region, from Ukraine to Venezuela and Ecuador, to Pakistan, Afghanistan, Congo, Nigeria and the Sahel States, we are witnessing a world order where power dictates truth, where bombs replace dialogue, and where imperial interests trample over peoples’ rights. The same forces that suffocate Palestine now seek to draw all nations—big and small—into cycles of war, militarisation, and submission.
Malta must not be dragged into this.
In the spirit of Dom Mintoff, who stood firm for neutrality, sovereignty, and dignity against global pressures, we say clearly:
Malta is not for sale. Malta is not a base. Malta is not a pawn.
We refuse a future where our ports serve warships, our skies serve fighter jets, and our people are silenced in the face of injustice.
This is a call:
Against imperialism.
Against militarisation.
Against the logic that “might is right.”
And for:
Peace.
Self-determination.
Active neutrality.
Għall-Ħelsien: Le Għall-Gwerra
Because freedom—here and everywhere—must be defended.
