April in Malta means many things: the winter chill subsides, the sun starts to shine with the heat of the incoming summer, and delicious local strawberries are found everywhere across the island. Nowhere is this more apparent than the picturesque agricultural village of Mġarr, home to Festa Frawli, the annual strawberry festival.
Returning Sunday 19th April, the parish square will become strawberry heaven for locals and tourists alike. Aside from the constant supply of fresh strawberries on sale brought to Mġarr by the farmers themselves, expect to find strawberry-flavoured everything. There are professional chefs with novelty, strawberry-inspired dishes and locals selling their delicious home-made creations. There’s something for strawberry-lovers of any age. Alongside the strawberries, other local products, souvenirs, artworks and crafts are also exhibited by the craftsmen themselves.
Entertainment will be provided by leading Maltese artists, DJ Pierre Cordina, and dance troupes from around Malta and Gozo, celebrating Malta’s unique heritage. Special activities will also take place throughout the day, including guided walking trails in the lush and scenic surrounds and pre-booked painting sessions.
Not to be missed, by special concession of Heritage Malta, Ta’ Hagrat and Skorba Temples will be open during the morning at a discounted price. A day out not to be missed with something for the whole family!
Carpooling is recommended, ample parking will be available and frequent scheduled buses 44, 238 and 101 will get you close to the event.
Festa Frawli is organised by the Mġarr Local Council and 'Kummissjoni Lejla Mġarrija' with the help of hundreds of volunteers.
