‘Double Exposure’: A Malta-London street photography exhibition born from the COVID-19 pandemic opens this month
Martin Agius and his double exposure project have gained worldwide acclaim across the continents
The 6th of September saw the opening of the photography exhibition titled ‘Double Exposure’ embellishing the Wignacourt Museum in Rabat, with the prints of local street photographer Martin Agius.
This exhibition depicts the photographer’s aim to capture the desolate streets that the COVID-19 pandemic left, setting them alongside images of the previously busy streets. The titular theme of the exhibition exposes this dual nature – the photographer combines images from Malta, the place he was located during the pandemic when he began the project, and images captured during his frequent visits to London before the pandemic started, each photo complementing the other to create stunning silhouettes.
On receiving positive feedback for these first attempts at exposure photography, Martin Agius began to expand his collection, eventually having to shift his focus solely on capturing street photography in Malta due to the travel restrictions of the pandemic.
Once borders opened up again and Martin Agius could resume his street photography overseas too, the project continued and began to gain traction all around the world, through interviews, articles, podcasts and features in prominent magazines across the United Kingdom, Italy, Australia, Asia, The United States, and various other European countries. This exposure has enabled the local photographer to expand the double exposure project to encompass Malta, Milan, Valencia and Venice alike.
Martin Agius is determined to visit other countries, with the intention of further augmenting the scope and artistic essence of his double exposure project.
This unique exhibition will be open to the public till Sunday 29th September from Monday to Sunday between 9.30am and 5pm, with the last entry at 4.15pm.
