Do you recognise the area? A century old photo shows Sliema’s Tower Road back in the day
A lot of things have changed since then!

A photo shared Christian Borg on Nostalgia Malta shows how incredibly different Sliema was 100 years ago.

If you have not yet recognised where the photo was captured, the shot shows Sliema’s Tower Road, a road that you’ve probably walked up and down many different times.

However, not many still alive today remember the bustling street looking at quiet as it does in the photo.

The street today is known for its vibrant bars, restaurants, hotels and its promenade but if you travel 100 years back in time, you’ll find a completely different road that is almost unrecognisable.

The shot shows a number of houses with an impressive architectural style that have now been replaced with different buildings.

A certain Mark Vassallo commented underneath the post, expressing how one of the houses in the image was named ‘Juno House’ and it was his great grandfather’s summer house from 1910 to 1958.

Many will probably also recognise the area from the beach shown in picture, Fond Ghadir. The beach is still quite popular by locals and tourists alike to this day.

The St Julian’s watchtower, also known as the Sliema tower can also be seen in the background.
