Twelve swimmers divided into in four groups covered 37km swimming around Gozo in the first Ultra Swimming Event held by Ocean Festival, in a challenge designed to push boundaries and create resilience in the participants.

Ocean Festival is an initiative founded by ultra swimmer Neil Agius, to encourage others to engage with long-distance open water swimming. The Maltese swimmer is known for covering what might be a world record for the longest continuous unassisted open water swim, a whopping 125.7 km from Linosa to Xlendi.

Neil Agius offered continuous support to the swimmers of yesterday’s event, following all the participants with a support crew on a boat throughout the entire swim, posting updates on social media as they progressed in the challenge.

The swimmers began their gruelling journey yesterday at 4am, with the first swimmers arriving at the finish line some twelve hours later, yesterday afternoon, to the encouraging cheers of those at the finish line.

Congratulations to all the participants!
