The Maltese writer Cassi Camilleri picked up the top prize at the short film workshop and pitching forum 'Let's Pitch Some Shorts!' which took place between 1st and 4th July in Zagreb. Her short fiction project ‘Cikwejra’ (Maltese for ‘Dandelion’), written by herself and Samira D'Amato, and directed by Samira D'Amato, was awarded Best Pitch, along with a prize of €3,000.

The jury praised the project saying: ‘The main award goes to a project whose strong artistic vision organically serves the purpose of a story exploring female control and body autonomy. The quality of the pitch reflected the work of a strong team of writer, director and producer who promise to deliver an impactful film.’

The international jury reviewing the short film pitches consisted of Morana Ikić Komljenović (producer / Little Red Dot), Laurent Crouzeix (head of the Euro Connection event / International Film Festival in Clermont Ferrand), Kenan Musić (producer and director of the Sarajevo Youth Film Festival) and Ella Mische (actress, producer and director, Croatian International Film Festival).

The workshop provided an opportunity for networking and empowerment of young and emerging talents from Croatia, Cyprus, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Malta, and Serbia, with the participation of several entities including the local Malta Producers’ Association.

Congratulations to Cassi Camilleri and the rest of the team!
