If you’re an event organiser or creative being, listen up! The Tourism Ministry and Malta Tourism Authority have launched a €4.5 million fund to aid the events and creative industry after so many mass events and activities were called off due to the pandemic.

In this morning’s press conference, the authorities announced the MTA Support Scheme which targets two main areas: Major Tourism Events and Distinctive Tourism Events.

In a nutshell

Major Tourism Events

The Major Tourism Events Supports Scheme (MTESS) is for events that are taking place between 1st August 2020 and 30th April 2021. Such events play a key role in attracting international visitors to our islands and showcase Malta on the global stage as a top tourism destination. For such events branding and marketing is important and must generate international media coverage before, during and after the event, MTA says.

Distinctive Tourism Events

The Distinctive Tourism Events Support Scheme (DTESS) is split into two categories. Category 1 is related to Tourism in the Community Events which targets those held in villages, towns and cities, taking place between 1st August 2020 and 31st December 2020. Category 2 is for Malta Live Events that are held on a wider national scale and will be taking place between 1st August 2020 and 31st December 2020. Events in these categories are ones that offer up an authentic and unique taste of the Maltese Islands, allowing them to feel and live the Maltese community life.
