A flamingo was spotted in Gozo yesterday and has been resting on the coast for the past 24 hours, appearing to be in good health.
It is being guarded by volunteers who are preventing the public from approaching and intimidating the bird, to allow it to gain the strength it needs to continue on its journey.
The Malta Ranger Unit, supported by BirdLife Malta volunteers, is making a plea for more volunteers to help protect the bird from any poachers to ensure its safety.
They are also appealing to the public to keep dogs on their leashes, as several dogs have already attempted to attack the flamingo in the time it has been resting.
Flamingos are a protected species, and it is strictly illegal to disturb or handle them in any way.
Let’s work together to protect any wildlife that crosses the Maltese Islands!
