Traditionally, the fields of science and the humanities have been kept separate. However, first- and second-year medical students at Queen Mary University of London in Gozo are bridging this gap through the exhibition ‘AnatoArt’, on display throughout October at the Cultural Centre in the Citadel, Victoria, Gozo.

In addition to their studies as aspiring clinical practitioners, these students have crafted an artistic exploration of anatomy, drawing from their ongoing education to offer unique insights into the hearts and minds of future doctors.

The exhibition features 38 mixed-media works, ranging from 2D drawings to collages, fabric models, and plasticine sculptures, representing various body parts and organs, including the lungs, digestive system and heart.

These creations stemmed from a two-week course titled ‘Anatomy through Art and Mindfulness,’ led by Abi McLeod, who curated the exhibition alongside the students. The course aimed to deepen students’ understanding of human anatomy while celebrating the miracle of life and healing. It also encouraged students to incorporate mindfulness into their daily lives, particularly in light of the stressful nature of their future profession.
