Adorable! Two tiny Mediterranean chameleons spotted at Armier in Mellieha
What a cutie!

Ambjent Malta has shared a photo of what might be the tiniest chameleon you’ve ever seen, two of which were spotted in danger close to Armier Bay in Mellieha. Thankfully, they were removed from the dangerous areas they were found in and relocated to a safe habitat.

The Mediterranean Chameleon, that goes by the scientific name Chamaeleo chamaeleon, has some incredible qualities, including 360° vision with eyes capable of moving independently from one another. They’re also known for their camouflage skills – changing colour to blend in with their surroundings, handy both for hunting as well as when they become the prey.

Chameleons also use colour changing is also used for thermoregulation – when taking on a darker colour, the chameleon can absorb more heat, and it shifts to a lighter colour when it needs to repel heat, in hot weather. This makes it a particularly handy skill in a country as warm as Malta!

Have you ever spotted a chameleon in the wild?
