A time gone by! Check out this throwback photo showing Balluta in the early 1900s
The nostalgia is real!

An old photograph of Balluta from the early 1900s has recently surfaced on the ‘St Julian's Malta’ social media group, sparking interest and nostalgia among its members.

The sepia image offers a glimpse of the iconic seaside area long before its modern development. In the photo, traditional boats can be seen gently bobbing along the shoreline, with the historic Carmelite Church standing proudly in the background, much as it does today.

Balluta Bay, a beloved spot in St Julian’s, has undergone significant changes over the years, but this photograph captures its serene charm from over a century ago.

The shoreline is noticeably less built-up, with a sense of calm and simplicity that contrasts with the bustling atmosphere of the area today, known for its restaurants, cafes, and vibrant activity.

Members of the group shared their appreciation for the historical snapshot, reminiscing about the beauty of old Balluta and how much the landscape has evolved.

The photo serves as a reminder of the area’s rich heritage and the timeless presence of the church, which continues to be a central part of the Balluta skyline.

Do you remember the quieter side of Balluta?
