A time gone by! 1960s photo shows Maltese youth gathering near Chalet in their Sunday best
It was a popular spot amongst Malta’s youth!

A photo uploaded to social media by ‘Magna Zmien’ shows a scene that is no longer common in the Malta of today.

The charming shot was taken some time in the early 1960s and shows many of Malta’s youth all dressed in their best clothing as they stroll alongside the Sliema promenade.

Young people used to go to the nearby Chalet area. It is a place where many met their future husbands and wives as they danced alongside the shore and fell in love.

Everyone looked extremely stylish as it was customary for women to debut their new dresses and for men to wear their smart suits.

In the background of the shot, one can also see the Sliema Point Battery which today is used as restaurant.

The photo is sourced from the Paul Caruana collection.

Do you have any memories of such a scene?
