A Maltese cultural icon! 'The Malta Bus Reborn' project a finalist for top European award
Well done to all involved!

Emma Galea

‘The Malta Bus Reborn’ project has been announcd as a finalist for the ‘New European Bauhaus Prize 2024’.

This is a prestigious EU competition which this year alone saw the application of 530 projects, out of which only 50 were selected as finalists.

Such a project is the vision of Mizzi Studio, a London and Malta-based architecture firm.

The idea, which was launched in 2019, saw the traditional Maltese Bus reimagined in a futuristic way where these old buses could be that much more environmentally friendly. The vision is a perfect combination of nostalgia and development.

‘The Malta Bus Reborn’ is nominated in the 'Strand B - NEB Rising Stars - Regaining a sense of belonging' section. The whole competition will see 20 winners that “represent sustainability, aesthetics, and inclusiveness”. Each winner will receive a cash prize of up to €30,000, as well as a communications package to aide them in developing and promoting their concepts.

You can case your vote through here.

Best of luck!
