1. A quiet retreat
Most places in Gozo offer a sense of tranquillity that is not as easy to find on the mainland, but if you’re looking to really get away from it all, consider a homely space that ticks all the boxes – the likes of Thirty Seven Gozo, which has the vibe of a real retreat. This converted property is over 400 years old but finished to the highest standards.

2. A quaint hotel
Boutique hotels have sprouted up all over Malta of late, and the trend has picked up on Gozo too. Look out for boutique properties, such as the expertly-converted Quaint Nadur and Quaint Xewkija, both located within age-old houses in village cores and complete with all the modern trimmings and spectacular views.

3. Grandeur and luxury
There are only two five-star hotels on this tiny island, but they sure do pack a punch. Hotel Ta’ Cenc & Spa and Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz are both set in idyllic locations, and come complete with all the amenities one would expect of five star luxury without losing the local charm that makes them quintessentially Gozitan.

4. The village vibe
Follow in the locals’ footsteps and spend your stay on the island in a stunning farmhouse, complete with a pool, country views and at the core of a small and wonderful village the likes of Sannat, Munxar, Xaghra or Ghasri. Go to the nearest grocery store to stock up on all the necessities for your stay, after which you can shut the door and throw away the keys until its time to leave.

5. Home away from home
If you’re looking for a self-catering apartment which is modern, located close to the sea and equipped with all the basic self-service equipment you’d need for a short stay, Gozo is full of them. Hillock Residence Apartments is one example, located within walking distance from the beach in Marsalforn, tastefully finished and boasting its very own communal pool for guests.

6. Be our guest
Guest houses are also a popular choice for a stay in Gozo – they tend to be more intimate than hotels, with a basic service to avoid you doing all the cleaning and clearing. Casa Gemelli Boutique Guesthouse in the capital, Victoria, is a great choice, replete with characteristically local furniture, helpful staff and bang in the centre of this tiny island.
