Resident conductor Michael Laus directs the MPO in a delightful evening of idyllic chamber music.
Wagner’s symphonic poem Siegfried Idyll for chamber orchestra is imbued with a sense of serenity and calm, reflecting the composer’s gentler side. Respighi’s keen interest in older Italian music led him to compose the three orchestral suites Ancient Airs and Dances based on compositions for lute. Mozart’s Divertimento No. 2 brings the evening to a lively close, a piece for orchestra brimming with joy and merriment.
