Well done! Maltese tennis star Francesca Curmi breaks into World’s Top 200

Could the Australian Open be next?

Maltese tennis player Francesca Curmi has broken into the world’s top 200, reaching a career-high ranking of 192 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed an impressive 2026 season, marking another significant milestone in her international tennis career.

Among her standout achievements this year was winning the W75 tournament in Blois, France, followed by a semifinal appearance at the WTA 125 tournament in Mallorca. She most recently reached the semifinals of the W75 tournament in Poitiers, further strengthening her position in the rankings.

Her latest achievement could also bring her closer to another major milestone: competing at the Australian Open in January 2027.

Should she maintain her current ranking and form, Francesca Curmi could be in contention for a place in the qualifying draw of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament.

While a spot is not yet guaranteed, her continued rise is certainly putting Maltese tennis in the spotlight.
