A €930,000 investment is set to strengthen Malta’s olive oil sector through a modern processing facility in Rabat, providing local olive growers with improved access to advanced technology and processing services.

The project, Innovation and Sustainability for Maltese Olive Oil Production, was recently inaugurated and the facility aims to improve productivity, quality and innovation in olive oil production, with around 2,000 farms and olive growers expected to benefit from its services annually.

European investment in agriculture supports farmers’ livelihoods and future prospects, and it is important of modern infrastructure in making the sector more competitive, sustainable and attractive to younger generations.

BSS Ltd General Manager Kurt Grima said the family business was committed to preserving Malta’s olive-growing tradition by making modern processing technology accessible to growers across Malta and Gozo.

“Whether one has three trees or three hundred, we are there to support them,” he said.

The investment represents another step towards strengthening local agricultural production, helping farmers add value to their produce while combining traditional practices with innovation and sustainability.
