WATCH: A Maltese spin on Mariah Carey’s iconic Christmas carol
A familiar tune with local words!

Francesca Vella

Many would be awaiting the moment it’s socially acceptable to start blasting the beloved Christmas tune of Mariah Carey’s ‘All I Want for Christmas is You’ from their speakers, and for others it’s a tune that they love to hate, but no one can deny the iconic status this carol has achieved throughout the decades.

The local singer-songwriter Nicole Cassar, in fact, decided that it deserves its own Maltese version – ‘Kull ma rrid għall-Milied hu int’! Fluently combining the Maltese lyrics with the familiar tune, Nicole shows real talent in song translation and bringing a local spin to the catchy carol.

Nicole has translated several pop songs into Maltese, such as Ariana Grande’s ‘We Can’t Be Friends’ and ‘APT.’ by Bruno Mars, and recently, she’s even released her own Maltese single titled ‘Lejl Għan-Nhar’ – onwards and upwards, Nicole!

Have you tried singing the song in Maltese too?
