ALS Malta, a voluntary organisation founded by patient-activist Bjorn Formosa, has received the ‘Gharfien il-Hila - Philanthropy’ award from the Qormi Local Council.

Bjorn took to social media to celebrate this achievement.

I would like to thank immensely the Kunsill Lokali Ħal Qormi for honoring us with the Gharfien il-Hila - Philanthropy...

“Thank you so much for this honourable award and to all those who have helped and supported us throughout this process,” he wrote

“I will continue to help and serve the community for the remainder of my life with all the strength that I have remaining,” he concluded.

Dozens of commenters took to the post’s comments section to congratulate Bjorn and his wife, Maria Formosa, for their relentless work.

ALS Malta is spurred forward by its mission of assisting Maltese people suffering from neurological conditions with a state-of-the-art solution.

Through this organisation, Bjorn and his team raise funds for the construction of the ‘Newer & Bigger Dar Bjorn’ – a residential community home offering neurological patients state-of-the-art medical facilities that will help offer a better quality of life.

This is the second care home of its kind being implemented by ALS Malta. The first ‘Dar Bjorn’, opened in Qormi in 2017, proved to be extremely successful, however it was deemed too small to cater for the country’s demand.
