Malta has truly become a popular destination with many tourists! In fact, it has had the second highest increase in overnight stays.

The study carried out by Eurostat evaluated how the number of overnight stays in different EU countries decreased or increased for the first half of 2023 when compared to 2022.

Cyprus took the top spot after it had a 39.3% increase. Malta came in second with a 30.5% increase while Slovakia came in third with a 28.7% increase.

All EU countries experienced a significant increase in overnight stays apart from Hungary who saw a 0.3% decrease.

In total, there were over 1193 millions nights spent in tourist accommodations all over the European Union. This is an increase of nearly 11 million when compared to the same period in 2019 (pre-covid19).
