‘Truly humbled by it all’! Tal-Petut in Birgu to close its doors after nearly two decades

Tal-Petut – The Private Dining Concept in Birgu is set to close permanently on Saturday, 7th November 2026, bringing an end to a nearly two-decade journey that saw the restaurant become a popular destination for unique dining experiences.

Announcing the news on social media, the family behind the restaurant reflected on its journey since opening in 2009, describing Tal-Petut as much more than a restaurant, but an important part of their family story spanning four generations.

‘Over the years its rooms have filled with birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, family gatherings and countless gatherings spent around the table over good food, wine and conversation’.

Known for its distinctive dining concept, Tal-Petut operated without a fixed menu, instead inviting guests to trust the kitchen to create meals inspired by seasonal ingredients, local produce and the occasion. The experience typically began with a selection of local antipasti, with the rest of the meal left to the creativity of the kitchen.

‘That trust between our kitchen and our guests became the heart of Tal-Petut and something we will always be immensely proud of’.

In its farewell message, the family expressed heartfelt gratitude to its staff, past and present, as well as the patrons who supported the restaurant throughout the years.

‘This is goodbye to Tal-Petut as you have known and loved it but perhaps not to everything that has grown from it. Although our doors will close, what happened within these walls will stay with us: the friendships made, the stories shared and so many wonderful memories. As a family, we could not be prouder of what Tal-Petut became or more grateful to everyone who shared in its story.’
