Fancy a picnic in the 1800s? Step back in time at Borġ in-Nadur this October

History will come to life at Borġ in-Nadur on 17th October, as visitors are invited to enjoy Picnic in the 1800s, an afternoon tea experience set against the site’s prehistoric landscape.

Taking place from 1pm to 4pm, the event will combine history, entertainment and refreshments. Behind the imposing Bronze Age wall, HRGM re-enactors dressed in Regency-period attire will recreate the atmosphere of the 19th century through traditional games, dances and entertainment.

Adding to the experience will be a rather peculiar excavator, portrayed by actor and guide Jeremy Grech. Following the instructions of scholar A. A. Caruana, the character will investigate the ancient remains, exploring the theory that they could be connected to the Phoenician Temple of Hercules (Melqart), referenced by the 2nd-century geographer Ptolemy and later associated with the area by 16th-century writer Jean Quintin.

The excavator will also introduce visitors to the Neolithic complex and Bronze Age settlement, sharing stories and discoveries surrounding the site.

An afternoon tea prepared in collaboration with Taste History will include sandwiches, scones, cake, biscuits, cheese and crackers, alongside tea, water, juice and a glass of Prosecco on arrival.

Participants should arrive by 12.45pm and are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket.
